Banned from #SundaySupper
Today’s Sunday Supper was supposed to be all about retro meals. It still is, but with a twist. I am saddened and both relieved to say that I will no longer be with Sunday Supper. Let me rephrase that. I was banned from Sunday Supper. That’s right, me I was banned. I have never been banned from anything in my life. Yet here I am. When I came upon Sunday Suppers from a few of my fellow bloggers, I thought it would be a match made in heaven. Isabel’s motto is Join us around the Family Table.
I should have took it as a sign to leave when the first week Isabel made what I thought was her first not so nice comment. She wondered if she should kick people out of Sunday Supper if they had a low twitter following. I happened to be one of those people, and I had only been there a week. At the time, I had about 200 followers. Needless to say it didn’t happen, I worked diligently to bring my followers up to more than 1000.
A month or two later she started a forum. It replaced the facebook that all of us were used to. I sent her personal messages through facebook telling her how unhappy I was about the forum and couldn’t understand why we couldn’t just stay on facebook. It seemed like everything I said to her just was not coming out the way I intended it to. I was not getting my point across. I was frustrated. I couldn’t understand the forums navigation and perhaps my frustration showed in my writing. Lets just say we left that conversation agreeing to disagree. Well, I think I went away thinking that. Looking back on it now, I think she took it as a personal attack and was not happy.
A month or two passes, I think I may have a handle on this forum thing. Isabel posts on facebook that we need to approve via triberr more. She singled one person out and chastised her, for not sharing enough via triberr. Even when a number of people told her we were all having problems with it. At that point I felt like she was calling us all liars. I should have stood up for my fellow blogger more, I am ashamed to say I didn’t. You would think at this point I should have cut my losses and moved on. Nope, for some reason I stayed.
Flash forward to now. In the coming weeks there will be a Land O Lakes theme on Sunday Supper. Isabel handpicked 20 bloggers for this event. Those 20 bloggers were contacted privately so I am not sure what the particulars are. After researching, I posted a article on the facebook Sunday Suppers about PETA and Land O Lakes that I found on line. Cows suffer for Land O Lakes It did not put Land O Lakes in a flattering light. Needless to say within an hour the post was removed. The next morning when I tried to get on the facebook and the forum I was banned. Saturday my recipe was removed from the links. I was stripped of my Sunday Supper tribe on triberr and also pinterest.
The moral of the long and arduous story? If we don’t value our content then why should others? We shouldn’t willy nilly promote something just because everyone else is. We need to research it ourselves. Make sure it is the right fit for us.
Join them, not me Around their Family Table this Sunday at 7pm Eastern Time and share your favorite Retro Food Memory with them. I wont be there. You can still enjoy my Watergate Salad.

WOW… You may have lost out on #SundaySupper but you kept your ethics intact – you GO girl! I’m going to follow your blog on Google Reader because I LOVE your recipes and insights into everything. I’m not religious but I value people’s opinions and morals regardless of their creed, and you are the epitome of both.

I am so sorry this happened and things got this out of hand. There’s always a way to work through differences of opinion and I feel bad you and Isabel weren’t able to do that. I commend you for speaking out about your beliefs. If the group was doing a theme on hunting I would opt out and not feel bad about doing so. Everyone has their own code they follow and no one should ever be made to feel bad for speaking up about what they believe in. I dislike the forums (I’m a FB girl through and through) so I have no idea what went down, I just feel bad it had to come to this. You will be missed and I hope you keep in touch.

We have chatted as you know Veronica and I wish you all the best. We will stay in touch for sure. I love your site and will visit often. Hang in there girl!! I am sorry it had to come to this.

I am so sorry that all of this has happened, and I do understand your dilemma as you know what happened to me. I feel like I finally got a handle on Triberr, and along came the forum. Like many, I find it hard to navigate. but am learning quickly. I wish there was a better dialogue to share differences amicably. I will continue to follow you, enjoy your blog, and loved your retro-recipe. I appreciate that you shared everyone’s links staying true to your word of posting for the week, and stayed strong in your beliefs. Best to you.

I am sorry..
This may be a blessing. I would hate to be part of a group that makes one jump through so many hoops. I hope that in the future you will be able to look at this as a great growing experience.
I love your blog and am appreciative for all your work.
Blessings,

I remember my Mamaw (grandmother) making Watergate salad, and I loved it! Thanks for the reminder.
I’m sorry you are not a part of the official Sunday Supper group, but the mission to get more people to enjoy meals together as a family doesn’t need an official group to succeed. Each blogger can do it their own way, whether they are a part of the “official” group or not.
The new forum drives me crazy…you have to go through so much just to post a photo! And I told Isabel to take me off of the Triberr group because: 1. I don’t have the time to figure out how to use/keep up with another social media site, and 2. Everyone seems to have so much trouble getting it to work.
We’ve been blogger friends ever since the 50 Women Game Changers, and we will continue to be so since I enjoy your site very much. Take care.

I will miss you on Sunday Suppers, my friend! But will continue to follow your lovely blog. xo

This is my first visit to your site (I’m from SRC group D). I’ve experienced bullies, who feel the need to be in charge and control others, and this Isabel sounds just like one. You are the superior person here. It is #SundaySupper’s loss.

take it as a blessing in disguise – love the watergate salad!

Marie d and dena echo my feeling that every now and then we are not very far from the schoolyard. I don’t like complicated websites either. Or bullies. So if you want to play hopscotch on the other side of the blacktop I’ll run on over there and watch your latest version of whatever you want to cook up.
